The Virtual University of Uganda (VUU) Academy for Corporate Learning is an industry outreach initiative established to provide innovative, world-class, short courses focused on enhancing Uganda’s competitiveness through continuous improvement of the workforce. Innovative courses have been designed to fit specific needs of the private sector, public sector, civil society as well as personal needs. The courses offered focus on designing and providing innovative Performance-Improvement Training (PIT) addressing specific capacity needs of the corporate world within the region. The Academy has a fixed schedule for open courses at the University premises but also responds to requests by organizations that wish to have in-house training.

Our Academy employs creative, unique learning methods. Our training process is carefully worked out in great detail with the learning needs of corporate executives in mind. The facilitators set out to give clients not just training, but a life-changing learning experience. From the content and packaging of course materials to the organization of learning sessions, each course is a living manifestation of innovation. All training sessions will be highly interactive and hands-on sessions focused on empowering participants with the practical tools and insights necessary to champion transformative change in their organizations.

Time Management for Personal Effectiveness, 18-19 April 2013
This course is especially designed for busy executives, professionals who combine work and study and young professionals at the start of their career.
We all have 24 hours in a day. The single-most factor responsible for our personal effectiveness lies in how we use our time. This is a course on how to undertake a Time Management Revolution at a personal level. In this training you discover that time management is more than being a punctuality freak. You will learn how to analyze your Personal Engagement Cycle and develop criteria for prioritizing your engagements. At the centre of it all is the art and science of decision making, coupled with amercing the right skills and tools to execute tasks in the most optimal way. You will learn how to identify High-Impact Actions (HIA) that lead to your targets and goals everyday. For managers, leaders and supervisors, this training empowers you to help others do their job better in order to achieve organizational goals.

Leadership, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: The Mandela Model, 26-27 April 2013
This specially designed course targets leaders of all kinds and all levels.
The training is modeled on the outstanding leadership, negotiation and conflict management astuteness of Nelson Mandela. It explores the phenomenon of Mandela as a living embodiment of Emotional Intelligence and how he successfully applied self-mastery and empathy in negotiation and conflict transformation in different situations. Augmented by Stephen Covey’s all-time principles as expounded in the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, the training will empower participants with hands-on tools and techniques for transformational leadership, negotiation and conflict management without creating losers.

Applying the Blue Ocean Strategy Approach to Strategic Thinking, 2-3 May 2013
The course targets CEOs, Board Members, Directors and Managers of all types of organizations.
Red Ocean Strategy metaphorically represents the common place scenario where competitors are fiercely fighting for a market share of the existing “small” market. The bleeding begotten of fierce competition turns the ocean red. Blue Ocean Strategy on the other hand, avoids the necessity to fight by making competition irrelevant. In this training, participants will learn how to discover, explore, create and profit from untapped markets, thereby establishing a blue ocean territory around them. It’s about becoming an industry leader and game changer rather than playing the game following the limiting rules set by existing competitors. Any organization can do it. This training teaches you how!
